Moulting dog?

It's that time of the year again - dogs are shedding their coats profusely and we're all running round with the hoover and brush permanently attached to our arms. I sometimes feel like I'm following my 4 around with a hoover to catch the hair before it hits the carpet!

So, what can we do about it?

I am often asked to clip off Labradors, Rottweilers. Jack Russells and other short coated breeds. Then their are the longer coated breeds such as German Shepherds and Border Collies. Unfortunately, this will not solve the problem and is likely to cause more problems for your dog in the long run such as skin problems and hair not growing back properly if at all.

Here at Canny Cuts Dog Grooming, we can help to remove the undercoat. Firstly, we will brush the coat out thoroughly with the appropriate type of brush and blast the coat out using a high velocity dryer. They will then be bathed using Earthbath Shed Contol shampoo and conditioner. This is a natural range of products and smells divine! Whilst the shampoo is still on the coat, it will be brushed deep into the hair, massaging the skin, ensuring as much dirt and dander is exposed before again blasting the coat to ensure the shampoo will get the maximum affect. Once all of this is done, the dog is rinsed off and placed on the table. A good dry down with a towel is then followed by the blasting process and finally a last brush out with a finishing dryer to get any hairs remaining and leave a lovely finish to the coat. Depending on the size, breed and temperament of the dog, this process can take between 1 and 4 hours! With regular maintenance at home, the shedding will be kept to a minimum and you can pack the hoover away!

Please take a look at the handy leaflets below which explain how clipping a dogs coat can be detrimental to their health. If you have any questions or comments, then please comment on here, call on 01743 243928 or via the Contact page.
